Woof! Woof! | Richmond VA Pet Photographer | Jen Jacobowitz Photography

ATHENA

December 23, 2013

I have been wanting to test the waters of pet photography for a while now. My plan was to try it out with my best friend’s dog since she is, hands down, THE BEST DOG EVER! Long story short goes like this… I never got around to it. A couple of weeks ago by cousin contacted me and asked if I did this very thing. I told him I had not but I was up to giving it a try!

Keep in mind, while I will do stylized shoots (and LOVE them) I still am not your JC Penney’s type of photography…. and, to me, that’s a good thing. So what you will find below is not a flash studio set up with solid color backdrops. What you will find below is pet photography done true to my style… relaxed, fun, intimate.

Thankful. So very thankful.

I’m thankful for clients who return again and again and feel like family.

I’m thankful that they not only let me play around creatively during their sessions, but also end up loving the results as much as I do.

I’m thankful that I can create a permanent, tangible placeholder for their love.

I’m thankful to God for allowing me to steward His blessings.

I love when I get to photograph newborns and then see them again when they turn one! These milestone sessions are so sweet and I’m so thankful for the people that keep inviting me back into their lives to preserve these memories!

I know sometimes photographers get annoyed when people want to jump in and just “take a quick one”. Like… that’s exactly what we are there for, right?

But this grandma cracked me at my Fresh 48 newborn session that I did in the hospital earlier this week.

Honestly, it is my favorite picture from the session. I love the story that it tells. I love that it’s the kind of moment that rarely gets documented or seen from another perspective.

I find it incredibly special when someone invites me into their home and shows me what their life looks like. I’m honored when they trust me to document those memories.

Not sure how that would look in your home? No problem. Just reach out and let’s talk it out.

Give me window light. Give me skin to skin. I’ll give you magic.

I love in home and in studio maternity sessions because most people feel more free to be themselves. They are less worried about dresses and poses and more focused on each other. THAT’S what I photograph.

Knowing that you and your photographer are on the same page is KEY! I’ll be the first to admit when your inspiration images aren’t something that I do. I’d much rather you have the right photographer for YOU.

Are you looking to capture connection? Do you want to FEEL your pictures? THAT’S what I do.

Do you want posed perfection? Do you want glamour dresses? That’s not me. And that’s ok. There’s a photographer out there for you and y’all are going to create something beautiful. 😉

What do you tend to lean towards when you envision your session? Please tell me in the comments.
